Studio Policies

Responsibilities of the Student

  • Arrive on time to lessons.

  • Bring lesson materials and any music you are working on or hope to work on! Please see notes on purchasing music. Students are expected to purchase original (legal) copies of music. Musicnotes.com is a great resource for purchasing and legally downloading sheet music for just about any song. I can also recommend songbooks that are age and vocally appropriate.

  • Students should participate in recitals at the end of each semester. We can also try to work together to set up other performance opportunities if there is student interest.

Responsibilities of the Instructor

  • If the instructor has to cancel a pre-paid lesson for any reason, the lesson will

be rescheduled at a time that is convenient for both instructor and student.

  • The instructor will begin lessons at their scheduled time or the instructor shall   extend the lesson to meet the required lesson time.

  • The instructor can make rehearsal tapes (melody line or simple accompaniment) during lesson times when possible.

What to expect from your lesson

Each lesson will begin with a brief warm up (breathing and vocal) followed by some vocal strength exercises, musicianship/theory lesson and repertoire work.  The first few lessons will have a longer warm up time as the instructor is getting to know the students voice. The student will work on instructor-approved repertoire in regards to vocal technique, style, performance practice, diction, etc.

What to bring to your lesson

  • Water

  • Music/ assigned exercises and repertoire

  • Recording device of sorts (It is always helpful to be able to listen back to a lesson for a refresher at some point during the week!)

  • Notebook

  • Pencil

What to do in between lessons

The most simplest of answers... sing. If you want to strengthen your voice then like any muscle you must condition it. The amount of practicing that should take place varies on the individual, age and goals. Students are encouraged to practice assigned exercises and repertoire throughout the week!

Purchasing music
